Seeds to Success
Washington state is in the early stages of testing a quality rating and improvement system, called Seeds to Success, that will help more licensed centers and homes offer the quality child care that helps prepare kids for success in school and give families the information they need to make the best child care choices. We want all children to grow up safe, healthy and filled with a love of learning.
Thrive by Five Washington is leading this "modified field test," with support and funding from the Washington State Department of Early Learning. We need to leverage public and private, statewide and local resources to make this a success.
This is a year for learning what works. We are focused on training, coaching, teacher-child interactions and management practices for providers to see how these supports affect quality. Five communities, including Spokane, are participating in the state's modified field test at varying levels.
In these difficult economic times we are able to test only a few key elements of our model with a small group of voluntary child care providers. What we learn from this small-scale testing will be valuable and help prepare our state to move forward with a full-scale Seeds to Success in better budget times.
